Health and Safety means creating and implementing policies and protocols that ensure that all persons operating in, or visiting, a workplace or public area remain safe and healthy.

At Albers-Almeida Construction, the health and safety of our employees, subcontractors and site visitors is our priority. We always follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act  and our sites are regularly inspected by a qualified health and safety officer to ensure that no oversights occur. Health and safety protocols are especially important in the construction industry, where working conditions are often more dangerous than in other occupations and accidents can be common.

What is health and safety?

Health and Safety refers to protocols and measures taken to prevent accidents, injury, illness and death in public places and workplaces such as construction sites. A company policy must include viable Health and Safety procedures to keep their employees and visitors safe.

At Albers-Almeida Construction we take the health and safety seriously. The construction industry is a dangerous business and we take every care to ensure that our workers, subcontractors, clients and site visitors remain safe on our construction sites. Only if they feel safe can our workers produce the high quality work that has become synonymous with our company and name.

We have zero tolerance for the disregard of our company health and safety guidelines, which are based directly on the occupational health and safety act of 1993.

What is the Occupational Health and Safety Act?

The Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1993 is a document that serves to “provide for the health and safety of persons at work and for the health and safety of persons in connection with the use of plant and machinery and the protection of persons other than persons at work against hazards to health and safety arising out of or in connection with the activities of persons at work.”

Our sites are regularly inspected by a health and safety officer and we take all precautions required by the Act. Our workers are exposed to continuous health and safety training to increase their awareness of creating a safe working environment, allowing them to identify hazards and respond in a suitable manner.

You can thus rest assured that your construction project is being completed in safe working environment.

Health and Safety measures ensure that employees and, in the case of construction companies, subcontractors and site visitors always remain safe. The well-being of our employees is very important to us and we thus take all possible action to ensure that it is maintained on our sites.

Construction sites can be dangerous by nature. To ensure that everyone on the site remains safe, a number of Health and Safety protocols are implemented. Examples of these protocols include:

  • Moving small objects to avoid trips and falls and ensuring that proper equipment is utilised to move large objects
  • Using simple signage to make employees and site visitors aware of dangers, such as slippery surfaces, falling objects, loud noises, etc.
  • Providing hard hats for all employees and site visitors
  • Ensuring that all work done at heights above the ground is performed with care, providing stable scaffolding and harnessing workers in cases of extreme heights
  • Ensuring that all persons who operate machinery and vehicles are well trained and qualified to do so
